Ready to become a management executive in the front office of a sports team? Upon completion in one of our sports business-centric programs you can work in amateur, collegiate, or professional athletics.

In the classroom, you will learn from professors who are working professionals in the field and will offer insights and share their experiences in the industry. You will hear from guest speakers, which have included professional athletes like NFL players Matthew Slater and Joe Thuney as well as front office executives, including Robert Kraft, CEO of the New England Patriots; Jonathan Kraft, President of the New England Patriots; Larry Lucchino, former President and CEO of the Boston Red Sox; Tom Werner, chairman of the Boston Red Sox; and Jim Rooney, whose family has been majority owners of the Pittsburgh Steelers since 1933.

Passionate about physical fitness, health, and education? Our Exercise Science or Biology programs will enable you to explore a variety of career possibilities. You will study fitness and conditioning, anatomy and physiology, and nutrition, all while focusing on personal conditioning skills and gaining real-world experience in health and fitness.

Call The Plays

Join the exploding sports media industry. Our Sports Broadcasting program will prepare you with specialized knowledge, including instruction on play-by-play, color commentary and analysis, interviewing, talk shows and additional reporting skills for television, radio, and podcasts. Every course has a practical application. You will hone skills in audio, video and digital content production as you work with the College’s WGAO 88.3 radio station as well as Dean’s digital and TV resources.

If you are interested in writing, broadcasting and media relations, our Communications program will immerse you in a production-based program that stresses practical experience in the field.

Throughout your program, you'll learn from the best. Professional faculty include John Rooke, who has 27 years as the stadium voice for the New England Patriots, 20 seasons as the stadium voice for the New England Revolution and 30 years of experience as the play-by-play voice for Division I college sports.

In both programs, you'll gain hands-on experience through internships, stadium visits and on-campus opportunities with Dean’s Division III athletic programs.

Make a Difference

If you are interested in coaching youth, recreational, club collegiate or professional sports teams or managing health and fitness centers, Athletic Coaching and Recreation Management could be for you. Enjoy a program that allows you to combine your passion for sports with the skills it takes to lead a team.

Coaches today do so much more than call plays and win games. The best coaches are mentors and educators who inspire players to reach their goals in sports and in life. In this program, you will prepare to do all of that and more.

This program combines a solid academic foundation with activity-based classes. You will learn coaching and fundamental theories, alongside fitness, nutrition, and personal conditioning skills. You will also study business principles and develop leadership skills needed to manage recreation departments or health fitness centers.

You will have real-world experience opportunities through internships, such as the YMCA or designing practice sessions and workouts with the coaching staff of one of our 16 Division III athletic teams. You will also network with professionals in the field, which in the past have included professional coaching staff members from the New England Revolution and Providence Bruins.

Run the Show

Interested in the world of entertainment? With a career in sports or arts entertainment, you can oversee the day-to-day operations of a venue, work with game-day staff and oversee the operations of numerous kinds of indoor and outdoor facilities including stadiums, arenas, and theatres.

Combine your passion for entertainment and the arts with a strong foundation in business skills with our Arts and Entertainment Management program. You will learn how to successfully run performances, fundraisers, and community service events.

Through partnerships with entertainment giant Learfield and our exclusive academic partnership with Kraft Sports + Entertainment, you will have exciting opportunities like behind-the-scenes tours of Gillette Stadium, Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Dunkin Center, and other venues. 

You will have the opportunity to walk on the field, sit in the stadium, and experience the excitement of game-day action in addition to meeting with industry professionals in this burgeoning field.

The Business of Sports

At the intersection of data and creativity in a consumer-driven world, savvy marketing professionals are more in demand than ever. In this fun, fast-paced field you will be at the center of both developing and executing creative strategies used by sports teams, recreation organizations and others.

With our Marketing degree, you will gain the experience and know-how to influence consumer behavior through any medium in any market. From traditional advertising opportunities like magazine ads and billboards to current social media strategies, live event marketing and e-commerce, you will build the skills it takes to work in the ever-changing marketing industry.

With esports, combine the principles of business, management, hospitality, and event planning to manage esports organizations, events, and competitions. At Dean, you will focus on sports organization, administration, venue management and analytics while learning the skills to create successful digital experiences in the wildly popular and growing esports industry.
