Neuroscientists focus on the brain and its impact on behavior and cognitive functions. They are concerned with the normal functioning of the nervous system and with what happens to it when people have neurological, psychiatric, and neurodevelopmental disorders.

Program Overview

The field of neuroscience is an interdisciplinary field, drawing on biology, psychology, chemistry, and other disciplines.

Studying this growing and exciting field provides students with a comprehensive knowledge of brain function and the nervous system from the cellular to the holistic level. Dean's Neuroscience Bachelor of Science students will be prepared to pursue graduate study and careers in healthcare, psychology, neuroscience, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and nonprofit organizations.

Dean College offers a bachelor’s degree and a minor in Neuroscience.

As a Neuroscience major at Dean, you’ll learn how to explain a wide range of neurological phenomena, including behavior, the senses, movement, emotions, cognition, and a range of disorders. Additionally, you will be provided with the following:

  • Historical and modern approaches to neuroscience and psychology
  • Independent and collaborative scholarly projects
  • Quantitative literacy, including the application of statistical methods to analyze and interpret data
  • Critical evaluation of the discipline of neuroscience within a larger cultural, social-historical, and ethical framework

Upon completion of the bachelor’s degree program at Dean, you will graduate with the skills necessary to begin your career in one of the many fields that rely upon neuroscientists. Students graduating with a bachelor’s in Neuroscience may alternatively choose to attend graduate school with a focus on research, medicine, education, or a long list of other disciplines.
